BlackBerry PlayBook Remote Control
As you might know, the PlayBook is equiped with Bluetooth and can be used to connect to your smartphone and other pheripals like a keyboard and mouse.
Bluetooth also is used for ‘Bridging’ your PlayBook, look here for setting up BlackBerry Bridge where you can find a complete guide.
When releasing PlayBook OS 2.0 there was, as always, an update for the smartphone Bridge application and that came with the Remote Control add-on.
Also, the PlayBook comes with HDMi output support, a fantastic feature which makes it possible to display your PlayBook screen on a big television or other huge screen with HDMi input suport.
For help with connecting your tablet to a big screen or television you can go to this page for help connecting your PlayBook via HDMi.
You can go to http://crackbook.nl/blackberry-bridge-setup/ for help on setting up Bridge.
The recorded video below gives a full impression and step by step on howto connect your BlackBerry PlayBook to a big screen with a HDMi cable.
The video shows that the PlayBook does true multitasking, it can open all your e-mail accounts, play a movie, open AppWorld, open your twitter client, and all goes very fast and smooth while sitting on the coutch in front of the television =)
The only thing that needs to be done on your smartphone is to enable the Bridge and open the Remote Control application;
If you set the HDMi options in the PlayBook settings, by swiping from the top bezel, the screenshot below shows the HDMi settings, from there there not much to do other then connect your PlayBook to the HDMi input on the big screen or television and your set.
Note that these settings are only adjustable when the tablet is connected.
Test with the ‘Aspect Ratio’ setting to fit the screen to your television or screen, on my Sharp 46? LED TV the ‘Stretch’ setting has the best look.
Leave the HDMi Audio on so all supported applications send the audio to the connected device for best experience.
The smartphone application is easy to use, but takes a little bit of time to get used to, on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, it works fine, but needs some more precision.
To navigate on the homescreen you need to hold your finger on the screen and drag, this way the tablet can be controlled.
Navigate to the upper lef or right to switch between applications, and if you do this from the top or bottom the same functions as on the tablet bezel are usable, very cool!
Hope this page helps you doing everything from the coutch from now on.
Summary: Remote Control your PlayBook from your BlackBerry! With Remote Control makes it possible to sit or lay on the coutch and do everything on your PlayBook from the smartphone, and this includes typing.
